The festival (July 10 to July 24), which is organised by Tameside Arts Network and supported by the council’s theatre arts working group, provides a platform for local artists to display their talent and gives residents an opportunity to sample some of the great activities on offer in the borough.

Look out for the Greater Manchester Police Band at Hyde Town Hall on Saturday, July 16, and the Greater Manchester Police Choir at the George Lawton Hall, Mossley, on Friday, July 22.

Albion Church, Ashton, will host the Tameside Festival Chorus on Sunday, July 24, and the Swing Commanders will be in concert at the Festival Theatre, Hyde, on Thursday, July 21.

On Tuesday, July 19, Hyde Festival Theatre is the venue for “The Myth of Escape” by the acclaimed Rob Johnston, described as an absurdist drama about holding on to everything you believe in. On Sunday, July 17, Hyde Park hosts the Storytellers’ Theatre Company production of “Alice in Wonderland” as part of the open-air children’s classics programme (noon and 2.30pm).

103.6FM Tameside Radio has organised a Battle of the Bands at the Concorde Suite, Droylsden; Abney Orchestra will be appearing at Flowery Field Church, Hyde, on Sunday, July 10; Biggles Wartime Band will be at the Grafton Centre, Hyde, and the Dave Egerton Band will be in Hyde Park.

Look out, too, for a performance of “Wind in the Willows” at Hyde Festival Theatre and “Great Expectations” at Guide Bridge Theatre.
Tameside Council’s assistant executive member for music, culture and performing arts, Cllr John Sullivan, said: “The Tameside Arts Festival will be a great celebration. It will not only showcase some of our great home-grown talent, but will also give residents who haven’t necessarily been involved in the arts before the chance to come along and have a taste of what’s on offer and, hopefully, find a new hobby or interest.
“It’s also important to remember the generous support given to the festival by voluntary groups and individuals from across the borough who have been instrumental in providing venues and skills.”
