Abney Orchestra are tuning up for Music Nation, a national weekend of
live music being presented by the BBC and the London Organising
Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) on 3rd & 4th
March 2012 as part of the Cultural Olympiad.
Having been selected to perform a specially-commissioned musical piece
for this event, the Mossley based orchestra have joined forces with
composers Chris Pickett, Chris O’Hara, Robert Webb and Matthew Connell to produce a unique musical tribute to the heritage of their home town.
The piece, called "Spinning a Yarn", acknowledges life in this mill
town before, during and after the industrial revolution. Abney Orchestra will be presenting this exciting performance in conjunction with Abney Choir, Mossley School of Dance and other local groups.
“Spinning A Yarn” will be premiered in the George Lawton Hall, Mossley (the site of the old Albion Mill) on 3rd & 4th March 2012 at 7.30pm.
